do we need a strategy in place first?
strongly recommended, yes. a playbook without a strategy underneath becomes a style guide — useful, but it can't tell you which post should ship next. if you don't have a strategy yet, we'll often package 02 — Social Strategy + this together at a discount.
isn't this what brand guidelines are for?
brand guidelines tell you what your logo and colors do. a playbook tells you what to write at 11pm when a customer is angry on instagram. they sit on top of each other. we lift from your brand book and credit it.
notion or pdf?
notion as the working version, exported as a versioned pdf at every quarterly lock. notion because nobody actually edits a pdf. pdf because some legal / leadership stakeholders want the static artifact. you get both.
how do you stop it from going stale?
two mechanisms: a quarterly 60-min patch session (included for retainer clients), and a "version log" at the top of the doc that flags every change with a date and a reason. if the doc hasn't been edited in 90 days, that's a signal something's wrong — usually that the team isn't really using it.
who runs the team training?
the strategist who wrote it, with the creative director on the call. a 90-min live walkthrough with role-play scenarios — recorded for anyone who couldn't make it. follow-up office hours for the first month while the team beds it in.
what if our brand voice changes mid-engagement?
it shouldn't, because we're documenting the voice that already exists, not inventing one. if positioning shifts mid-build (it happens), we re-baseline the voice dials in the same engagement at no extra fee. a playbook locked to a voice you don't ship in is worse than no playbook.
